Under the Small Holdings and Allotments Act 1908 a Parish Council, subject to its circumstances, is obliged to provide allotments if there is either a perceived need to supply such plots in the area, or if six or more electors within the Parish make a written request.
In Godstone Parish there are two sites, both in Godstone Village. These two locations provide 44 plots in total (including 18 half plots). The site at the rear of Salisbury Road is owned by the Parish Council and now accommodates 32 plots (including 17 half plots). The site along Windmill Lane adjacent to Hilly Fields, known as the Hare and Hounds site, is leased to the Parish Council by the land owner. A new Lease was granted in 2011. There are 11 plots (including 2 half plots) and the plots are slightly larger than at the other site. In both locations all allotment holders are encouraged to make best use of their plots.
Annual tenancy agreements are offered on the understanding tenants comply with Council guidelines and operate their plots in a considerate manner. It is the Council’s duty to provide allotments but unfortunately we still have a waiting list so ask all plot holders to notify the Council if they are no longer able to make use of all or part of their plot. If you feel you would like to rent a plot and are willing to go on a waiting list, please complete an application form and return it to the Clerk.
Rents are set annually by the Parish Council.
If you are interested in finding out more about what is involved in renting and cultivating an allotment plot please do not hesitate to contact the Parish Council office.
